Real Life Faerie Ears

May 28th, 2006

There are many reasons why someone would want pointed ears – there are a growing number of faerie and renaissance faires to attend in costume; as a subtle form of glamourbombing or even just to represent your everyday ‘inner faery’. The latex stick on variety, although much more sophisticated these days, can still conjure up images of Dr Spock and Halloween costume parties. So what do you do when you want something a little more authentic, a little more permanent?
Body modification artists across the world have been developing and performing ear pointing and resculpting operations for a few years now. Techniques very from artist to artist but generally the excess cartilage and lobe is removed and the ear is resewn to form a more elfin shape. Obviously, this isn’t a procedure to be entered into lightly but it’s interesting stuff. We highly recommend you do a lot of research first (try BM ezine) and find a reputable artist! There are only a handful of people capable of doing these operations, Steve Haworth and Lukas Zpira being two of them.
We would love to hear people’s experiences if you have had your ears surgically pointed.

curiously i’ve thought about it once or twice, :/ my ears themselves the way they are now are big but charmless, thought when younger to take profit from it and make them “really special” LOL

I would love to get it done, but not until I can find someone who I trust to carry it out! I am also a bit of a wuss when it comes to pain!
