The Disney Fairies website is packed full of fun stuff like quizzes and games, an introduction to the different fairies and a tour of pixie hollow. You can also take a peek at the fairies adventures with sample chapters from the book series (published by Random House). In the Disney Store you can find a full range of toys available (including some really cute play sets) and there is now a Disney Fairies magazine, published monthly and featuring stories, colouring in pages and activities. Lady in the Water
July 20th, 2006

Released on July 21st in the US, ‘Lady in the Water’ is the new film from director M Night Shyamalan (Sixth Sense, The Village).
Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep (Paul Giamatti) rescues a young woman (Bryce Dallas Howard) from the pool he maintains. She is in fact a character from a bedtime story who is desperately trying to get back to her own world. Cleveland and the apartments tenants are drawn into the story when they try and help her get away from the mysterious beasties who seem set on preventing her from returning to the other world.
Here at Fae Nation we are big fans of Mr Shyamalan’s previous films, and ‘Lady in the Water’ looks like it will be a very enjoyable dark fairy tale. Filed under Film | Comment (0)
Sour by Brendan Monroe
July 19th, 2006

Brendan Monroe is an American artist with a reputation for fine line drawings of unusual creatures and nature spirits. Any toy based on his art was going to be something special and ever so slightly odd. ‘Sour’ from Android 8 is just such a release. Based on paintings and sculptures created by Brendan for gallery exhibitions, these odd fellows stand about 10″ tall and have interchangeable faces so you can mix and match your favourite expression with your favourite stump body colour. There are four different versions, two of which are limited editions available from Android 8 only. One is available only from the American toy store Munky King and the forth will go on general release. They are very limited to only a few hundred items each so if you want a little tree spirit in your home or office you had better move fast! Filed under General | Comment (0)
Priscilla Hernández – The Ghost and the Fairy
July 18th, 2006

Ancient Shadows is the forthcoming album from Spanish singer-songwriter Priscilla Hernández. The music weaves tales of light and dark, the fairy and the ghost – Ancient Shadows is at times haunting and bitter yet beautiful and full of meaning. Priscilla’s voice is stunning and her song writing would appeal to fans of the ethereal gothic genres as well as the New Age and Celtic. A strong supporter of independent artists, Priscilla has chosen to release the CD on her own label, Yidneth.
Yidneth takes its name from the title of a comic book, written and illustrated by Pricilla who is also a talented illustrator. Now collaborating with David Riche (of Fairies World) you can expect to see a lot more of Ms. Hernández in the near future. Filed under Music | Comments (8)
Blue Men of the Minch
July 17th, 2006
The undersea caves in the Sound of Shiant (Scotland) were home to a particularly unfriendly group of mermen. As the name suggests, they have blue skin, and long straggled beards. The Gaelic name for the Minch is Sruth nam fear Gorma – the Channel of the Blue Men. They would swim to the surface and call up storms to wreck any ships trying to pass through. The sailors were offered one chance of survival - the ship’s Captain would be challenged to a rhyming contest with the Blue Men. If he won, he and his crew were able to sail on unharmed. If he lost the ship would be wrecked and the sailors drowned.
