The Hosting of the Sidhe

September 10th, 2006

The host is riding from Knocknarea
And over the grave of Clooth-na-Bare;
Caoilte tossing his burning hair,
And Niamh calling Away, come away:
Empty your heart of its mortal dream.
The winds awaken, the leaves whirl round,
Our cheeks are pale, our hair is unbound,
Our breasts are heaving, our eyes are agleam,
Our arms are waving, our lips are apart;
And if any gaze on our rushing band,
We come between him and the deed of his hand,
We come between him and the hope of his heart.

The host is rushing ‘twixt night and day,
And where is there hope or deed as fair?
Caoilte tossing his burning hair,
And Niamh calling Away, come away.

The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries

September 9th, 2006

The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries

Despite being first published in 1911, The Fairy-Faith in Celtic Countries by W Y Evans-Wentz remains one of the essential texts for students of Faerie Lore. This book collects stories and interviews from the areas where Celtic influences remained alive – Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany and the Isle of Man. It shows how less than 100 years ago the belief in Faeries and the oral lore had survived, despite hostilities from modern science and religion. The rapid changes in society during the 20th century meant without books such as this, many of those stories and beliefs would have been lost forever. This recently re-published edition ensures the stories it contains will continue to live in the hearts of new readers for some time yet.

The Fairy Faith

The Fairy Faith DVD

A documentary film by director John Walker, The Fairy Faith explores the folklore of Faerie and its enduring popularity. Although tales of Faerie hark back to a bygone era, this feature length film shows that the Fairy Faith is still very much alive in interviews with present-day believers and modern Otherworldly encounters. Canadian based Walker travelled to the Celtic lands in search of the myths he learned from his Grandmother, but found also their influence in America and Canada. With beautiful cinematography and an ethereal soundtrack the Fairy Faith is an exciting glimpse into the Faerie Realms.
