Ancient Shadows CD Review

In these days of mass-commercialism and catering to the lowest common denominator, it is hard for artists to keep their creations pure and as originally intended yet still achieve mainstream recognition. For Priscilla Hernández the process of producing ‘Ancient Shadows – The Ghost and the Fairy’ has been a long and, at times, difficult journey. Turning down several record deals for fear of being made to water down her music, Priscilla instead chose the independent route and created her own label Yidneth. By being able to take complete control over the finished record, ‘Ancient Shadows’ has resulted in being an incredibly strong and well produced album, where Priscilla’s care and love of what she does shines through in every aspect.
As well as composing, writing, arranging, performing and producing every track Pricilla also illustrated and designed the album cover. The deluxe fold out digipack contains two booklets of accompanying illustrations, photos, lyrics, and inspirations behind the songs that gives the music even greater depth and meaning. There is also a unique serial number which gives access to exclusive content on the website.
The 19 songs which form Ancient Shadows take the listener on an atmospheric exploration of the darker side of fairy tales and ghost stories. The bittersweet songs of love and loss, hauntings and nightmares invoke an otherworldly beauty and sense of magic. Ancient Shadow’s ethereal nature makes for perfect listening in the velvet depths of night, just be prepared for the fae-touched dreams it may invoke.
