Holey Stones

Holey Stone

Long thought to be objects of power, holey stones (also known as hag stones) are essential for the dedicated faerie seeker. They are pebbles and stones through which a hole has been naturally bored, usually by the actions of a stream or river or the sea. It is said if you look through the hole you will be able to see faeries (this is the same idea that inspired the ‘Seeing Stone’ in the Spiderwick Chronicles). Holy stones are most effective when found, not bought – so next time you visit the coast or a riverbank take the time to look for one.

I live in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon.

Does it count as a Holey Stone if the holes through the stone are from volcanic activity?

I found a couple of very nice cinder stones with holes all the way through straight from the Volcano. I found them at the hot springs in our lake.

I believe it is any stone with a naturally occurring hole. Usually they’re made by the actions of water, but I don’t see why volcanoes wouldn’t count too! (There just aren’t many volcanoes in this part of the world!)

I have hundreds of these stones. I have found them on my vactions to Mexico, Jamicia, and Costa Rica. When beach combing it is sooo hard not to pick them up, as I feel that they are a gift from the fae and are seeking acknowledgement.
