Ethera Jewellery

February 16th, 2007

Faerie-haunted Devon in Southwest England is home to the enchanted trio of designer/makers that are Ethera. They can turn their considerable talents towards making your dreams come true, not only in jewellery form but also with clothing, homewares and original art. Their jewellery ranges from pretty pastels in feminine forms to gothic beasties and dramatic rainbow hues, and takes inspiration from Faeries, nature, mythology and historical motifs. Unfortunately some sections of the website are still under construction, but if you find yourself in Dartmouth you can visit the Ethera shop.

Props from Fairy Tale: A True Story

For collectors interested in owning a little piece of movie magic, take a peek at the Prop Store of London. They carry a huge selection of items that have actually appeared in films, as well as reproductions and rare crew and promotional pieces. The film selection is quite diverse, but of interest to Faerie fans are a set of photo boards used in ‘Fairytale: A true Story’ (shown above); weapons from Legend; and production scripts from Dark Crystal. New items are introduced regularly – at the moment there are many other props from productions like Lord of the Rings, Brothers Grimm, Chronicles of Narnia and other fantasy film and TV shows.

The Fantasy Art of Marilyn Radzat

Sculpture by Marilyn Radzat

Marilyn Radzat’s fantasy sculptures are truly awe-inspiring. Combining layer upon layer of antique fabrics, natural materials and found objects, each piece is a one of a kind work of art. The graceful figures sparkle in the light, covered in intricate glass mosaics and beads, creating a magical centrepiece for your art collection. Unsurprisingly, Marilyn’s work is highly sought after, and many well-known personalities own one of her pieces.
Along with Gail Lackey and Patricia Ebert, Marilyn also offers weekend ‘Alchemytic Embellishment’ Art Salons where you can create your own faerie dwellings, goddess crowns and other creative projects.

The Art of Tessa Farmer

Swarm detail by Tessa Farmer

Tessa Farmer’s minuscule sculptures of hells angels and skeletal fairies have been swarming at exhibitions for several years in the UK and Europe. Using found organic materials and insect remains these tiny and unnerving creatures are captured in a vicious battle with wasps, spiders, dragonflies and other unfortunate insects. Requiring a magnifying glass to be viewed properly, you are drawn right into the heart of the carnage but the level of detail is astounding. The sculptures question the commonly held views of fairies being pretty little things found in children’s stories, and bring a fantasy element to the more brutal aspects of nature.
