Living Tree Houses

The Fab Tree Hab

If the previous post on furniture shaped from living trees has captured your imagination, what about living in a house also formed from trees? Mitchell Joachim’s ‘Fab Tree Hab’ proposes using a gardening technique known as pleaching to grow structures which would eventually become comfortable three-bedroom homes. Add to this rainwater harvesting, solar heating and cob insulation and you get an amazing living house which is also incredibly environmentally friendly.
Sculptor Patrick Dougherty also explores the idea of trees as shelters in his beautiful installations around the world. Patrick weaves saplings together to form fairytale structures and organic sculptures.
