The Faery Reel: Tales from the Twilight Realm
The Faery Reel is an anthology of short stories and poetry edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling. The twenty stories and poems were contributed by many major names in fantasy fiction, including Neil Gaiman, Charles de Lint, Holly Black, Tanith Lee and Emma Bull. The authors were asked to produce works which drew on traditional faery lore rather then the more conventional view of faeries, which has resulted in a rich and diverse selection of tales which span the globe and introduce the reader to the darker aspects of Faerie. The cover art and interior decorations are by Charles Vess, and the book also includes an excellent essay on Faeries in art and literature by Terri Windling and a further reading list of contemporary fiction and non-fiction books that deal with the Faerie theme.
