The Fairy Oak of Corriewater

March 20th, 2007

The small bird’s head is under its wing,
The deer sleeps on the grass;
The moon comes out, and the stars shine down,
The dew gleams like the glass:
There is no sound in the world so wide,
Save the sound of the smitten brass,
With the merry cittern and the pipe
Of the fairies as they pass.
But oh! the fir maun burn and burn,
And the hour is gone, and will never return.

Thank you for your patience!

The Art of Ed Org

March 16th, 2007

A Midsummer Night'sDream by Ed Org

Any one who has ever drunk any of the Wychwood brewery’s fine ales and beers will already be familiar with some of Ed Org’s commercial work, but the Siren Gallery is home to his beautiful illustration and fine art. Inspired by faeries, mermaids, Celtic mythology, and Arthurian legend, Ed’s intricate works would hold their own against many of the more commonly known fantasy artists. While he does work in colour, it is Ed’s highly detailed pencil work which really catches the eye. Ed makes appearances at craft fairs around the UK where you can purchase prints, and there is also a selection of open and limited edition prints on his website.

Living Tree Houses

March 14th, 2007

The Fab Tree Hab

If the previous post on furniture shaped from living trees has captured your imagination, what about living in a house also formed from trees? Mitchell Joachim’s ‘Fab Tree Hab’ proposes using a gardening technique known as pleaching to grow structures which would eventually become comfortable three-bedroom homes. Add to this rainwater harvesting, solar heating and cob insulation and you get an amazing living house which is also incredibly environmentally friendly.
Sculptor Patrick Dougherty also explores the idea of trees as shelters in his beautiful installations around the world. Patrick weaves saplings together to form fairytale structures and organic sculptures.
