Green Man Press is home to award winning illustrator and publisher Charles Vess. Charles’ delicate artwork has graced many comics and fantasy novels over the years, with a number of high profile collaborations with leading fantasy authors. His most well known collaboration is most notably with Neil Gaiman, on the graphic novel ‘Stardust’ (with the movie adaptation of course being released soon). The ‘Book of Ballads and Sagas’ series featured re-workings of traditional English, Scottish and Irish ballads illustrated by Vess and written by guest authors such as Jane Yolen, Charles de Lint, and Midori Snyder. Charles has also recently turned to sculpture, producing a statue based on Stardust for DC/vertigo (pictured above). If you have been bitten by the Stardust bug the original hardback graphic novel has just been reissued with lots more new material, and from June 1st to September 9th the William King Regional Arts Centre (Abingdon, VA) will be exhibiting ‘Stardust Rising: the Art of Charles Vess’.

Award winging artist Tami Lahey has been giving fashion dolls fantasy makeovers since 1998. In 2006 she began designing and making teddy bears, leading to the creation of the ‘Fairy Doogles’ and ‘Cuddletails’ – fairy and mermaid fantasy bears. With their beguiling little faces I’m not surprised these bears are highly collectable. They come with glittering wings or tails and little details such as pointed fairy boots and fairy dust necklaces. Tami still also makes her fantasy fashion dolls with elaborate beaded costumes and hairstyles. Current creations are for sale through eBay whilst past dolls and bears can be viewed in the galleries.
