The Art of Stephanie Roberts

October 11th, 2007

By Stephanie Roberts

For me, the Art Nouveau style of the late 19th Century has always reminded me of the spirit of Faerie. The elegant organic curves and love of nature and femininity expressed in the art of the Belle Époque are perfectly echoed in Stephanie Roberts‘ paintings. Inspired by the likes of Alphonse Mucha, JW Waterhouse, Margaret Mackintosh and poet John Keats, Stephanie’s paintings pay tribute to the past whilst still appearing a fresh and contemporary. As Stephanie puts it, her fairies have old world sensibilities and like to dress as such, so in the galleries you will find flappers and starlets, dripping in vintage glamour, along side the more traditionally portrayed faeries.
