The Age of Enchantment

The Age of Enchantment

Beginning today and until February 17th 2008, Dulwich Picture Gallery in London is hosting The Age of Enchantment – an exploration of the art of book illustration from Aubrey Beardsley’s death in 1898 to the 1930’s. This period has often been referred to as the Golden Age of illustration, with artists like Edmund Dulac, Arthur Rackham, Walter Crane and Charles Robinson producing enchanting illustrations which adorned the pages of lavish children’s fairy tale books. Ethereal fairies, mermaids, exotic beasts and rich fantasy themes feature throughout. This is the first exhibition in many years to look at the fantasy illustration of the early 20th Century, and is accompanied by a fascinating catalogue priced at £25.
