Carol Phillips is an emerging fantasy artist and portraitist from Oregon. The galleries show Carol’s proficiency in everything from pastels to digital painting, but it is her wood block prints I find most eye catching. This is an ancient technique, also known as woodcut, where an image is carved from a block of wood to create a relief, and then inked and pressed onto paper. The resulting prints are all individual, and can be further enhanced by watercolour washes or printed onto different papers. Carol has taken full advantage of this technique to produce a series of limited edition artworks but at affordable prices.
