The Art of Juan Cabana

Sea Fairy by Juan Cabana

Sailors undertaking a long voyage would often return with strange tales to tell – of mermaids and sea serpents, and other mysterious creatures from the depths of the ocean. On occasion, they would also bring home the preserved remains of one of these exotic creatures, previously thought to have existed only in legend. These ‘Feejee’ mermaids were usually elaborate fakes, but they none the less caused a sensation where ever they were exhibited. Juan Cabana is continuing in this age old tradition with his eerily realistic creations, constructed using real fish teeth, bones and skin. See amazing mermaids, sea faeries and other oceanic beasties of all shapes and sizes in his galleries, along with a collection of images of antique mermaids.
