Evidence of Fairies by Charm Foundry

Stumbled across on Flickr, this fantastic offering from Charmfoundry, American artist Kate Phillips. Evidence of Fairies is a little assemblage of a Fairy crown and tiny skull, apparently found under an Oak tree in Scotland. Very convincing!

Is this real? Or a created display of made objects by human?

I really don’t know what to think about fairies anymore…

The evidence might be real or it might be fake. But fairies are real. I have seen them. If you wish to see fairies, keep some areas wild. Do not use insecticides, herbicides, pesticides, or any other form of poisons.

This proves nothing! The only thing that will pursuade me is a picyure of a real fairy.

I agree with Toby– Regardless of photos people put out there pretending fairies, they actually do exist anyway. I saw one visibly face to face last May– and two other times after that, I saw sparkly pink lights flying over a tree- and once inside our home near the ceiling while I was playing music.

I learned never to doubt any longer. There are mysteries not given to mankind

I think this is real. but if there’s one thing I know for sure ,it’s that faeries do exist.I agree with toby and lisa.fae rock!

I see some odd things about this picture that scream fake to me.

    = The Skull =

    - The Orbital sockets are very thick around their rims/terminal edges…Real bone around the area of an orbital socket would be much thinner.

    - Those sockets are also very deep. to deep one might think to allow for a brain to fit inside the brain case.

    - The holes where the nose would be…they go no where. It is very plain that they simply terminate as indentations.

    - There are no knitting lines. Those areas of the skull where skull plates adjoin…all mammals have them. It looks like little zig-zag or jig saw puzzle lines.

    - There is no flesh hair or anything that is indicative of natural decomposition. even if it was cleaned up… Where the jaw anchors there would be some ligaments embedded firmly and deeply in tiny little holes that are almost impossible to remove without damaging a skull. By the time they remove them selves in an exposed to the elements condition the skull is weather worn, pitted, broken, chipped, cracked. This is too neat and well polished

    - To be honest it over all give me the general impression of being ceramic.

    = The Crown =

    - I really don’t see the Crown fitting onto the skull as it is yet alone in life where their is hair flesh and muscle adding to it’s thickness.

    - How was that crown made?…A tiny little knife? if so how could such a knife be sharp enough dense enough or heavy enough to cut with such precision and detail into wood? I do know obsidian can be napped at a small scale if you have the right tools. And it’s edges can be as thin as 7 microns thick (the human hair is typically 11 microns thick). So I suppose a tool that was heavy enough, sharp enough, and durable enough could be made of obsidian.

But even then I only see one material that is a wood that is soft enough when fresh, which could be cut well against such a tool and that is the shell of an acorn (not to be confused with the cap of an acorn). I have used a sewing needle and fresh acorn to make decorative rims/trim for oak and madrone wood runes before.

So I suppose besides the fact that it does not seem like it would fit the living head, something that small with the ability to make small tool could craft that crown.

    - But another thing is the location it was supposedly found in…at the base of an oak tree? Any being with the intelligence to both craft such a crown, and bestow upon it the significance of reverencing another like being would also (I would think) not leave the body of a revered leader or elder lying about. Even some primitive humans buried their dead, or had some ritual of some fashion that ensured their dead’s remains were not disturbed.

While I believe in fairies, I also believe from only a minute or two of actually looking at this picture that this is not evidence of one, but merely an interesting and nice little piece of craftsmen ship. I think people can trust my opinions to some degree. One’s own informed discernment is probably best most of the time. But it never hurts to give more information for aiding someone in coming to a conclusion.

I can tell you about myself (in support for the validity of my opinions) That I am an armature field herper (practicing herpetology out in the field which is the study and car of reptiles and amphibians), Who has seen thousands of remains out in the wilds and determined what they were of with research and informed aide.

I am also craftsman (making mostly pagan ritual magic tools these days).

And I have about 12-15 years experience in practicing either of those on a daily basis.

I think it is intended as an art piece to provoke discussion about the possible existence of faeries, rather than being held up as actual evidence. I thought is was interesting which ever way you look at it!

Helleri — you’re an “armature?” I rather doubt it. I think you meant “amateur.”

I agree with your conclusions on the above photo; very cute, but definitely made by one of us giant humans.

I do, however, believe. A look at the Arthur Conan Doyle site shows a comparison of the “Cottingsley Fairy” photos — the ones we usually see have been retouched, to look like obvious fakes. The originals are a good deal less … conclusive.

I’ve got a section on my web site entitled “In Defense of Faerie.” Draw your own conclusions …
