The Illustrated Fairy Gazette

November 21st, 2009

The Illustrated Fairy Gazette is the world’s first magazine created ‘by Fairies, for Fairies’. Containing articles on Fairy society, fashion, etiquette, and more, plus adverts for some wonderful looking Fairy businesses. The Illustrated Fairy Gazette originally began life as a series of 5 limited edition miniature magazines illustrated by Frances Tyrrell and written by Avril Tyrrell. They have now been reworked, with lots of additional material, into two new large format editions published by Templar.
‘Bon Voyage!’ includes a guide to enchanted holidays in the Fairy Realms; castles and palaces; Mermaid markets; and interview with Fairy minstrels The Singing Sands. ‘Festivals & Fairs’ looks at all the seasonal celebrations enjoyed by Fairy society; plus tips on proper etiquette for Maypole dances; caring for furred and feathered friends; and Princess Daisy writes about Mothers and Godmothers. Both editions also include craft activities and a press-out doll with several different outfits.
The gorgeous vintage style is utterly delightful, and sure to charm readers of all ages. There are so many lovely little details and descriptions of life in the Fairy world. My favourites are the adverts, from the essential garden maintenance services provided by Hedge and Hogg, to the dainty footwear offered by Lady’s Slipper, Mothwing & Violet (Perfumers by appointment to Queen Mab) and millinery by Petal Chapeau. Oh how I wish they existed in the Human realm! From one Fairy to another, The Illustrated Fairy Gazette comes highly recommended!
