My favourite Faerie Book? “Faeries” by Froud and Lee; I wore out two copies of the original and will soon need to replace my 25th anniversary copy…
I love my “Faeries” and “Faeries” popup book by Mr. Brian Froud and Mr. Alan Lee…O I also like the moorchild that was a sweet book … My son(I know off subject) goes around the house and plays with the dust ( yeah i dust but you know…) and says look mom faeries! oooo kids
Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, especially the edition illustrated by Arthur Rackham. The man knew his faeries.
I have an old hard-copy of William Allingham’s poem The Fairies. It’s worn out from use. My grandmother used to read the poem to me all the time and it was my introduction to the world of fae at an early age and what inspired me to become a fantasy artist. My absolute favorite.
Hmmm. Don’t have a favorite faery book… but I could share my a favorite fae-style musician! Phildel! (it’s ethereal and makes me dream of the feywild, yay!)
The Fairies Alphabet Book by Beverly Manson. Pretty pictures and is a charming little book. =)
Faeries by Brian Froud and Alan Lee is the first book I bought from them. Now I have MANY, quite large Brian and Wendy Froud collection and treasure them all. I was actually going to buy fae magazine this weekend when I go to Barnes and Noble =)
My favourite Faerie book is my special boxed collectors edition of Enchanted with a special little scetch inside, i will cherish it forever, i love to browse the pages and get lost in the beautiful artwork,it is enchanting
My favorite faerie book is “The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries” by WY Evans Wentz, published in 1911! The author traveled all over the Celtic lands to collect stories, myths and legends from the locals. I love how the tone of the book takes the existence of faeries quite seriously. This was an actual cultural study!
“Faeries” from Harry N. Abrams and
“Spirits, Fairies, Leprechauns, and Goblins: An Encyclopedia” By Carol Rose
I’d say the same as Robert as far as books with faerie pictures. But two novels camt to mind also-
1) The Little Country- Charles DeLint
2) Memeory and Dream- Charles DeLint.
Favorite Faerie ART book – Good Faeries/Bad Faeries by Brian Froud….Favorite Faerie Fiction Novel – Merry Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton!
World of The Dark Crystal. Brian Froud has the ability to take a blank page and create an entire world from a spark of idea. You open the book and immediately you’re inteh land of the Skeksi’s & Gelflings, just stunning.
I own an original copy which I have since had signed by Froud, as well as the new edition. I also have a 1st edition of Faeries, signed by Brian Froud, an amazing man with an amazing family.Sorry, needless info but I get excited!
OooOOoo lots… but I am reading : The fairy faith by W Y Evans Wentz – great book….fairy luv x
“Goblins of the Labyrinth” by Froud and Jones, although “Lady Cottington’s Book of Pressed Faeries” would be a close second.
Faerytale by Raymond E Feist. It’s a novel about very dark faeries and I love it.. and it has just been re-issued. Squeeeee!!
Hmmmmm…..my Favorite Faerie book?
That’s not an easy choice but I will go with a book that influenced me artistically:
A Fairy’s Child by Ann Dahlgren and Douglas Foulke
My favourite faery book would have to be I Was a Teenage Fairy by Francesca Lia Block. Francesca paints such vivid pictures with her words, and the way she writes really draws you in. Also, the fact that her stories are set in modern times gives you that extra feeling that faery tales can come true for anyone. :)
A new favourite faery book for me is Wondrous Strange (and its sequal Darklight) written by an author who lives in my neighbourhood :)
http://www.harpercollins.ca/books/9781554682737/Wondrous_Strange/index.aspx
My favourite Fae book? Oh, that’s tough.
I guess it would have to be “A Midsummer Night’s Faery Tale” by Terri Windling and Wendy Froud. My sister got it for Christmas when I was nine, and had stolen it countless times since then. It holds so many memories for me!
Currently my favorite fairy series is Dreamdark by Laini Taylor. Wonderful and unique story.
I really like the Faerie Path series by Frewin Jones.
I also like the artwork of Priscilla Hernandez, Nene Thomas and Jessica Galbraith.
And of course, I love FAE magazine.
Warm Faery Blessings!
my favorite fairy book, would have to be from my favorite fairy artist Amy Brown both of her art books, they encouraged me to start drawing and painting, her art is so beautiful,
I love the whole series of Flower Fairy books by Cicely Mary Barker. They really caught my childhood vision of fairies quite nicely, and I am looking forward to sharing them with my child(ren)in the future. :)
I’ve read books with faeries in them, but the thing that started it all was this movie from 1996 or so about these little girls who believed in faeries and proved it to the people they knew. I thought it was awesome and have since carried that belief myself. No matter where you are there is something of an unknown that you can’t see : ) I’ve always been a huge faerie lover and have bought FAE in these past recent months when my local bookstore started carrying them! Great magazine and great job!!
Hmmm… hard to choose but my favourite has to be ‘The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns & Fairies’ by Reverend Kirk. Fascinating! :)
Thats a hard choice as i have many faerie books but to pick my one favourite out of them it would have to be:
The Fairy Bible by Teresa Moorey
simply because it has so much interesting information about every kind of faerie you can think of and the history for each one.
For me it would have to be the fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, their dark tales of old folk lore are brilliant, from the fairy godmother to a little man called Rumpelstiltskin (Tom tit tot). timeless classics
:0)
xxx
I like all the Froud works, but I also am in LOVE with “The Moorchild”!
My favourite Faerie book is “Faeries & Other Fantastical Folk” by Maxine Gadd, such a stunning book with gold lined pages and interesting text and poetry.
My favorite faerie book changes from moment to moment, however, when I need a giggle, the Lady Cottington series fits the bill.
My favorite book would have to be “The Art Of Faery”. Every time I get artist block I start going through that book and it inspires me.
My favorite fairy book is my first fairy book “Fairies 101″ by Doreen Virtue. It was what started me on my journey to the Fairy Realm ! How lucky am I !
Well thats a hard one I have a few ;)
After many long hours working on various jobs I do like to escape into another world, amongst my fav are Holly Black and the Tithe series, Fablehaven by Brandon Mull and Wickedly Lovely by Melissa Marr, But my favourite is fablehaven, I love the adventures of the light and dark side of the spirit realm, its exciting, frightening, sad and funny, and I never want to put it down, no matter how bloodshot my eyes are ;) And my imagination really kicks in with his books, they are so well written.
Octavia
The War Of The Flowers, by Tad Williams. It’s a modern faerie tale, and rather dark, but I like it. I think it appropriately describes both the beautiful and terrible in Faerie.
Oh, boo!!! I can’t enter then. The question’s too difficult – I can’t choose!!! xxx
My favorite is actually the series of Flower Fairies! I love the art work in them and the poems are wonderful.
My favourite Faery book would have to be `Summer with the Leprechauns: A True Story`by Tanis Helliwell.
Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies books. It’s the first fairy books I read as a child, and what started off my love of the magical. :)
It IS hard to choose-
maybe I’ll go for informative rather than decorative;
Katharine Briggs “A Dictionary of Fairies”
Not to be to pop-ish, but one of my favorites is Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr and her entire Wicked Lovely series. The revelations of the main characters are very thought provoking, and their personal situations so realistic. And the ‘culture’ of the setup of all the courts based on each courts nature holds a lot more truth than simply one is bad and the others not, and that is definitely addressed in Ink Exchange.
i love anything my brian froud, but i have to say lady cottingtons pressed fairy book, is defently my favorite, its beauitiful art work and such a cute fun story for read
One of my favorite faerie books is Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book with Brian Froud illustrations. It’s just too funny!
Oh, it HAS to be “Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book!”
It sums up everything I’ve always suspected about fairys with a hilariously childish twist ;)
My favorite definatly has to be “Ironside” by Holly Black. I love the modern feel and the story is amazing!
my fave book must be.
Enchantment of the fairy realm.
By Ted Andrews.
a very welcombe present..
Da Return of De Faeries (Accelerating Rhymes) by Kelfin PaTricks Oberon , illustrated by Steve Reeves…Love it! :) <3 ✫
lets see, my favorite book would probably be Faeries by Brian Froud and Alan Lee and The Vanishing People: Fairy Lore and Legends by Katharine Briggs which I think is out of print now, but it’s awesome:) so much information!:)
I agree with the 1st comment, Faeries by Brian Froud, Alan Lee :P But I really need to get my own copy.
My favorite faerie book? I would have to say my favorite in recent memory (there are so many wonderful books to choose from) would have to be “Faery Healing: The Lore And The Legacy” by Margie McArthur. A very close second would have to be “Dreams Underfoot” by Charles De Lint. Both books are highly excellent, and I recommend them without reservation. =)
i would have to say ‘A Dictionary of Fairies, hobgoblins, brownies, bogies and other supernatural creatures’ by Katherine Briggs is a magical book.i don’t know if it’s still around but i aquired mine from my husband.i think the older books are much better.
My favorite fairy book is Artemis Fowl. My daughter got me interested in it. It has action, adventure and of course fantasy!
Oh I love Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book, have spent many hours examining that squashed fairy!
Hello,
I don’t know if I can participate, since I live in Spain, but here you have my favorite faerie book: Faerytale by Raymond E. Feist. Now I’m reading The Little Country by Charles de Lint and maybe it becomes my favorite :-)
I’m not sure I can participate either (I live in the US!) but my favorite faerie books will always be fairy tales – from the Grimms and Perrault to MacDonald and Wilde to much more modern retellings you name it, I love them :).

My favourite one has to be Faeries by Brian Froud. Seems like I’m not alone in this. :)
My childhood friend had a copy of Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book and I was green with envy but without a doubt the best book about little people (if not strictly ‘fairies’) that I’ve ACTUALLY owned is The Minnipins by Carol Kendall.
My favorite fairy research book is Katharine Briggs’ Encyclopedia of Fairies (which sometimes appears under other titles.) My favorite fairy fiction… hmmm.. would it be terrible to say my own? (Shameless self-promotion alert!)My fairy book Under the Green Hill comes out in November. Love FAE Magazine!
-Laura L. Sullivan
Has to be ‘good faeries, bad faeries’ by Brian Froud. I could sit for ages admiring the beautiful art and finding things that I missed before.
oh .. i have so many “Favorites ” and it is hard to choose but Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book with Brian Froud illustrations just beats them all to the winning post….
I am so glad to hear that your magazine is now available in retailers in NZ…..
My favorite faerie book…well, that is very difficult. I have so many. But my favorite book of all time is Mortal Love by Elizabeth Hand. It definitely has Faerie Realm overtones. I have read it cover to cover three times. As for Faerie Art, well, any one of my Brian Froud books would apply.
Blessings!!!
My favourite Faerie book is ‘The Wood Wife’ by Terri Windling. It stood out from all the other fantasy books on the shelves in the shop because of Brian Froud’s fabulous artwork. And when I read it it inspired me to start painting again so it holds a very special place in my heart.
I love the fairy, Jenks, in Kim Harrisons “Dead Witch Walking” series. Maybe not a fairy book, but a good look at a fairy in action!
My first, and long standing, favorite faerie book would be with out a doubt, Brain Frouds “Faeries”.
A More recent and delightful find is the Darkfever series by Karen Marie Moning (Darkfever,Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever and the soon to be released Shadowfever.) Fantastic books!
It’s all about Froud & Lee! I’ve been working with the Faeries Oracle cards for years, they will probably always be my favorite :)
Faerie Blessings,
Cyhndi
the secret life of elves and faeries by rev, robert kirk
I’m not sure, I have so many favorites. I can’t decide between Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr and The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint.
I stumbled upon this site whilst looking for an image of the card I just pulled from The Heart of Faerie Oracle by Brian and Wendy Froud, needed for my blog entry.
So it will be no surprise when I relate to you that it is this artist and his books that I have found the closets connection with fae and that his are my favourites, most notably and quite simply Faeries by Brian Froud.
If ever there was an artist that made you feel like you were being given a real window into the true world of fae it is Brian Froud.
My favorite faerie book if good faeries/ bad faeries!!!
I love them all though, not just brain froud.
