Her paintings pay tribute to Art Nouveau and the Pre-Raphaelites, while her graphic work includes a set of dragon and faery illuminated letters. Fae Nation is proud to present our newest Featured Artist, Naomi von Monsta. Naomi is an illustration graduate with a love of the darker side of faerie. Her work is haunting and a little unsettling, yet beautifully ethereal. It very refreshing to see an artist explore the Unseelie Court for a change, and I hope you agree! Chris Down will be having an exhibition of his fantasy art at the Moontree Gallery in Boscombe from 29th May until 24th June 2010. There will be a wide variety of framed pictures, originals, limited edition prints and open edition prints. Chris’ work comprises painted, pencil, pen and ink and has appeared in over 40 books. Among those are his Celtic and Fantasy titles in the Crafters Design Library series which have been published in English, American, French, German, Russian and Chinese editions gaining his work an international audience. Launch day for the exhibition is Saturday 29th May and Chris will be there all day from 10am until 5.30pm.

Josephine Wall’s beautiful, colourful fantasy paintings have been attracting admiration from fans around the world for many years. Now newly opened, the Josephine Wall Gallery in Poole, Dorset, allows visitors to see the original painting’s intricate details up close for themselves. The gallery is run by Josephine’s daughter and son-in-law and is the largest collection of her art in the world. Also for sale are Limited Edition prints, figurines, mini-prints, cards, jigsaw puzzles and more.

We were excited to learn fairy artist Judy Mastrangelo (one of our Featured Artists) will be visiting the UK this year. Judy is appearing as Guest of Honour at the Magical Faerie Festival in Canterbury, Kent, over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. There will be two workshops hosted by Judy during the festival – Creating Art From One’s Imagination and Creative Drama. The workshops are open to all ages and Judy is an experienced workshop facilitator so they should be a real treat.
Judy has also recently opened an online store, where you can buy original art, prints, and all sorts of lovely things featuring her artwork, including candles, puzzles, jewellery and mugs. Recently added to this list of a range of sweet figurines from Munro Collectibles (shown above).

Readers of FAE magazine will already be familiar with some of Armorel Hamilton’s work (she drew the faeries in the logo and has also contributed interior illustrations). Now with the launch of her new website we can all marvel at these wonderful creations. Armorel is both a sculptor and painter, and has recently directed her first short film (watch below). This is a world of ethereal faeries and whimsical creatures, and even the odd unicorn. The creatures in particular have a magical quality… one of them came home with me after the Avalon Art Exhibition and I am pretty sure he is getting up to mischief every time my back is turned!

We are pleased to present our newest Featured Artist, Dorothy Wallace. Dorothy’s beautiful photography captures the innocence of childhood and the enchantment of the Faerie Realms. Her vintage style portraits are created using traditional techniques, and are sepia toned and coloured by hand. People talk about having a fairytale wedding all the time. Sadly what they really mean is having an expensive, ostentatious and usually very mainstream traditional wedding. However Tricia Fountaine shows us how it should be done. Her beautiful costumes, flowers and décor set the scene for an enchanted woodland wedding presided over by a High Priestess and attended by the loveliest Fae and Bird Folk. Yes, this is a creative project rather than an actual ‘real’ wedding – all the fun but none of the commitment – but it couldn’t fail to inspire should you be planning your own nuptials. A rising star in the fantasy illustration world, we are pleased to present Julia Helen Jeffrey as our Featured Artist. Julia’s paintings contain a breathtaking sense of energy, portraying the wild spirit of her Faerie subjects. These Folk are rugged and untamed, like the landscape of Julia’s native Scotland. Unsurprisingly, her illustrations are appearing in many well respected Fantasy periodicals, as well as gracing the pages of several books. Please see the Gallery for more of Julia’s amazing work.
