Fairy Tale Cottage for Sale

Froud Mural

A rare opportunity has arisen to buy a real life fairy tale cottage in the heart of Devon, with the sale of artist and author Terri Windling’s home. Set in a charming village on the edge of Dartmoor, the thatched 16th Century house looks enchanting enough as it is. But the interior holds the real surprise, with wall murals painted by Brain Froud, Alan Lee, Charles Vess and other mythic artists. The price tag is none too cheap, but for someone with the money this would make the perfect retreat and unique cosy home. Hopefully whoever buys it will preserve the murals!

Powered by Fairy Dust Car Sticker

I couldn’t resist this little bit of fluff and nonsense – a ‘Powered By Fairy Dust’ vinyl sticker to go on the rear screen of cars. There are two slightly different designs and both come in a selection of pinks and purples, and prices start at £6.99.
I do suspect however that if cars really were powered by fairy dust they would be significantly more expensive to run than they already are. That said, I bet it is far better for the environment that petrol!

Living Tree Houses

The Fab Tree Hab

If the previous post on furniture shaped from living trees has captured your imagination, what about living in a house also formed from trees? Mitchell Joachim’s ‘Fab Tree Hab’ proposes using a gardening technique known as pleaching to grow structures which would eventually become comfortable three-bedroom homes. Add to this rainwater harvesting, solar heating and cob insulation and you get an amazing living house which is also incredibly environmentally friendly.
Sculptor Patrick Dougherty also explores the idea of trees as shelters in his beautiful installations around the world. Patrick weaves saplings together to form fairytale structures and organic sculptures.

Tree Men by Pooktre

Tree shaping is the lengthy, but rewarding process of sculpting trees as they grow to predetermined designs. Once grown, the trees are harvested to create unusual indoor furniture, or left growing to make striking additions to the garden. Peter Cook and Becky Northey have grown mirrors, coffee tables, chairs, candelabras, and the wonderful living tree men in their Queensland property over the last 10 years. The quirky shapes and flowing lines would certainly not look out of place in a faerie castle, providing you are patient while they grow!

Amy Brown Pottery Collection

Just in case your kitchen was feeling a little unfairyish, you can now get pottery items featuring Amy Brown’s ‘Nice Faery’ painting. There is everything from canisters and bowls, utensil jars and teapots, to salt and pepper sets, plates and fruit bowls, and spice racks. There are also items which would happily find a place in other parts of your home, like candle and tea light holders and a lotion dispenser. I am quite intrigued by this idea and look forward to seeing if there will be other images featured in the range.
