Ataraxia are a small group of Italian artists whose musical explorations encompass many eras and mythologies, dreams and ideas. They create timeless compositions yet mix contemporary and traditional in a way which defies categorisation. Ataraxia have been performing since the early 1990′s and have released a great deal of material over that time, much of which would appeal to fans of ethereal and faerie-inspired music.

Fairy World IV Compilation

French Faerie music label Prikosnovenie have just released Fairy World IV, the latest in their series of enchanting compilations. The CD comes beautifully packaged with a book and features 17 tracks (13 previously unreleased) from the label’s favourite artists. Bands include Caprice, Louisa John Krol, Irfan and Collection D’arnell Andrea.

Daughters of Elvin

The Devonshire based performance troupe Daughters of Elvin bring the spirit of Medieval Europe to life with authentically recreated music and masked dancers. The evocative masks, created by founder member Katy Marchant and Wendy Froud, include creatures straight from the pages of a medieval bestiary, such as the Unicorn, Woodwose, Devil and Dragon. Their latest CD Galbrbok is a collection of 12th to 15th Century European love songs placed on gothic harp, bass viol, hurdy gurdy, dulcimer, bagpipes, recorders and percussion with the beautiful voices of Jennie Cassidy and Sophie Brumfitt. Daughters of Elvin will once again be performing at this summer’s 3 Wishes Faery Fest in Cornwall.

‘Faerie’ Elaine Silver is a folk singer and musician originally from New Jersey and now residing in Florida. Her latest CD, Faeries Are Gathering collects together 11 tracks of faerie music recorded by Elaine since 1994, plus two new songs specially recorded for this album. This brings the total number of albums released by Elaine to 14, including Faerie Goddess and Faeries, Dreams and Other Friends. Elaine’s music is very lively and joyous, and sure to get your toes tapping!

Songs for Faerie Folk by Robin Crutchfield

Experimental artist Robin Crutchfield has a career in music and performance art dating back nearly 30 years. His three solo albums released since 2006 have moved away from his electronic roots and straight into a magical other world of elves and faeries. Songs for Faerie Folk, Toadstool Soup and the most recent For Our Friends in the Enchanted Otherworld combine harp, tanpura, bells and samples of birdsong and other forest friends. It is quite minimal, at at times a little eerie, but definitely very enchanting. Also of note are the simply brilliant song titles, including – Dwarfish Determination, Cobweb Pie, and Spider’s Restless 8th Leg!

Celtic myth and legends, the Realm of Faerie and timeless romance are ever present in the music of Lydwen, a harpist, poet and narrator from France. Drawing on the traditional music of Brittany, Ireland and Wales and the Middle Ages, Lydwen carries the listener away to a dream-like Otherworld. She also performs her own compositions and musical tales full of the magic of nature and wonderous creatures. Her first album La Promise was released in 2005 and another is on the way.

La Nuit des Fees

The latest release from French Faerie music label Prikosnovenie, La Nuit des Fées, is a beautifully presented CD box set. The CD contains 16 unreleased tracks by the label’s most faeriesque artists, including Collection D’Arnell Andrea, Caprice, Louisa John Krol and Cécile Corbel. The final 6 tracks are the ‘Fairy Sessions’, original recordings born of a collaboration between various musicians. The CD celebrates Prikosnovenie’s festival La Nuit des Fées, held in the medieval city of Clisson in September 2007. Accompanying the CD is an illustrated travellers guide to the night time land of the Faeries.

The newly launched Faerie Radio, brought to you by those fine Faerieworlds folks, allows the listener to recreate the festival’s melodic moods any time you want. The station features tracks by the musicians who have played at the Faerieworlds and FaerieCon events, with plans to add spoken word performances by famous authors, interviews, special events, previews and more in the near future. Expect to hear some of the finest Celtic, neo-Medieval and Darkwave music currently available, and if you like what you hear, you can buy the track or CD from either iTunes or Amazon.

Narsilion

The name Narsilion comes from Elfish, meaning song of the Sun and Moon. Narsilion are a Spanish-based trio who produce gorgeous fantasy ethereal folk. Fans of the neo-medieval and heavenly voices genres would also find much to adore in their music. The group have released two full length albums to date, Nerbeleth and Arcadia, containing songs of melancholy magic, enchanted landscapes and mythical creatures.
