Dorothy Wallace
Dorothy Wallace is a portrait photographer that specialises in hand-coloured imagery of children and fairies. She has always been drawn to all that is old, vintage and Victorian. Her style of photography attempts to recreate the look and feel of long ago and “Once upon a time”.
Dorothy’s photographic journey began with the birth of her children and happily continues in preserving the magic and memories of childhood for others as well. Her faerie portraits, inspired by her own daughter, evolved out of a passion to visually record this enchanted time. The images are done entirely by hand, photographed on film and printed in a traditional darkroom. She sepia tones and hand-colours the images in the time-honoured way and employs some digital techniques for final adjustments and enhancements for reproduction of the finished piece.
Dorothy works from her home studio in Southern California, where she lives with her husband and daughter. All of the images are photographed in her garden in available light. Her work is available in several online shops and has been featured in Faerie Magazine, Somerset Studio’s Life Images Magazine and Darkroom Photography Magazine.
